Botox

Other than aesthetic purposes, Botox has several other benefits. One of them is that it can help lessen the aching of your jaw by stopping you from grinding your teeth. It can be a great tool to help alleviate pain from grinding your teeth as it will help relax the muscles that are in pain. In this case, it relaxes the masseter muscle and prevents it from overworking. When you grind your teeth, you may also notice your jawline starting to look wider, and it’s because you are building up those masseter muscles. Botox or Xeomin helps to lessen the appearance of this muscle—almost deflating it—so in addition to alleviating the clenching, it also slims your jawline. A great cosmetic bonus!

Botox for Migraines

Botox is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as a treatment for chronic migraine headaches. Botox works by reducing muscle contractions and stopping neurotransmitters from sending pain signals to your brain. This can help reduce the pain caused by migraines. It is not a cure and people who receive Botox for headaches usually get the treatment about every three months. It is used mainly for those who have headaches more than 15 days a month. The medication typically is injected into muscles of the forehead, scalp, neck and shoulders or wherever the headache is felt to originate from.

Botox vs Xeomin

We carry two types neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A, Botox and Xeomin (Zeo-min), both of which are FDA approved. Both are injected into facial muscles in order to relax the muscles which means the person is then left with smooth skin, therefore, less deep creases in the face. Both are injected to correct frown lines and wrinkles by temporarily blocking the signal between the nerve ending and the target muscle. With aging our skin loses elasticity and our muscles operate closer to the surface of the skin, therefore, frown lines and wrinkles become apparent the more muscle contractions our face makes. And no matter what, you are going to show signs of aging at some point in your life. And this is great preventative to start as early as your 20s to help those muscles from creating deep lines.

While both Xeomin and Botox products use the same active ingredient, Xeomin is actually much better for your body. The active ingredient in Xeomin injections is used in its pure state, meaning it does not contain any additives. Botox adds extra proteins to the injection mixture. Since Xeomin is used in its pure state, it does not have to be refrigerated. The warmer injection is much more comfortable than a cold Botox injection which has to be refrigerated until use. And the major benefit of a pure-form injectable is that the human body is less likely to become resistant to Xeomin because there are less ingredients in the solution. Some patients have developed antibodies to Botox leading their bodies to reject the treatments.
